EGX81-W
This page helps you identify the Cinterion EGX81-W modem and verify the modem label, kit contents, cabling, LED status, antenna, and SIM card. The EGX81-W is used together with the TMC-3 controller to establish the OrbiSCADA connection over the mobile network. The EGX81-W is a 4G modem with LTE-M (Cat M1), NB-IoT (Cat NB1/NB2), and 2G (GSM/GPRS) fallback. It needs an active SIM card, mobile coverage in one of the supported technologies, and a correctly connected external antenna to communicate.

SIM card
The EGX81-W uses a Mini-SIM (2FF) card to access the mobile network. Only 1.8 V SIM cards are supported (3 V SIM cards are no longer supported on this model). The SIM card is inserted directly into the SIM slot on the modem — the EGX81-W does not use a removable SIM tray. The slot uses a push-push locking mechanism: push the SIM in to lock it, push it in again to release it.
Modern SIMs from carriers are often supplied as nano-SIM or micro-SIM in a punch-out frame. Make sure the SIM is in the Mini-SIM (2FF) size before inserting it. The SIM must be active and have its PIN disabled. Test the SIM in a mobile phone before installing it in the modem.
