Question
The remote terminal displays:
No connection to service terminal or functionality not installed.
Short answer
This message means that the remote terminal cannot establish a connection to the turbine through OrbiSCADA.
One possible cause is that OrbiSCADA is no longer receiving data from the controller through the communication unit. In this case, the Live tab displays a Timeout status. The Performance map can provide an overview of the daily log count and help identify communication interruptions over time.
Another possible cause is that the required hardware for remote terminal access is not installed, is installed incorrectly, or has become faulty.
How to check the Performance map
- Log in to OrbiSCADA
- Open the controller
- Select the History tab
- Select Performance map
- Select the Log count metric
- Hover over the relevant day to view the daily log count
A healthy controller typically reports approximately 1 log per minute, which equals about 1,440 logs per day. A log count significantly below the expected value indicates that OrbiSCADA did not receive data from the controller for part of the day. During these periods, the remote terminal may not be able to establish a connection.
Hardware not installed or hardware failure
This message may also appear if the controller is not equipped with the required hardware for remote terminal access.
The required hardware depends on the specific controller type.
Different controllers require different interface hardware between the controller and the OrbiCOM-FC communication unit.
For example:
- Cotas VMP 5000 controllers require the Orbital RS232–Optical Interface (Item No. 400468).
If the required hardware is installed, the message may indicate that:
- the required interface hardware is not installed correctly
- the wrong interface hardware is installed for the controller type
- the interface hardware has become faulty
- the communication cable between the controller, the interface hardware, and the OrbiCOM-FC is damaged or disconnected
